Ultimate Spider-Man: Comic Cult Classic or Cheap Remake?
Being an enormous fan of the Ultimate
Spider-Man comic series, I immediately had to buy
this game. It is a solid free-roaming superhero game with attractive visuals and refreshing character variation. Yet, it wasn't that much different than its predecessor Spider-Man 2. Although the swinging physics are smoother and more stylish, this game left out many fun things that you were able to do in S-M2 such as running up/down a wall for long periods of time or sprinting. The jumping in this game was also lacking a certain spring in your step. The camera made fights frustrating, you were limited to very few combat moves and options. Parker's catchphrases get annoying and ALL OF THE MISSIONS WERE THE SAME. You either faced a boss, chased a boss, or both. The game is also ridiculously short. Its main redeeming point is the Venom gameplay and his unlockable rampage at the end. Fans will love, Gamers will accept.
